Description
Seigaku-ishi comes from the earth along Ashikubo River, a tributary of Abe River. It is very hard stone. This stone’s quality and color are similar to Furuya-ishi, and it was once upon a time called Ashikubo Furuya. The most distinctive feature of this stone is its wrinkles. The form of this stone can be a steep mountain range, mountain with waterfall, and/or a range of mountains. Suiseki hobbyists in Japan recognize the value of Seigaku-ishi. A common way to enjoy Seigaku-ishi is to place it with wood base (daiza).

Suiseki are viewing stones that are appreciated by their decorative value, and are naturally found in rivers, oceans, or lakes. Popular types of suiseki suggest a mountain, a waterfall, an island, a thatched hut or an animal.
