We're excited to invite you to a unique Sunday workshop featuring bonsai artist Cesar Ordoñez of CenCal Bonsai. Based near Fresno in Central California, Cesar brings a deep connection to the region's landscape and a rich background in agriculture, which he left after 13 years to pursue Bonsai full-time.

Cesar specializes in the development of Olive Yamadori, and his journey into Bonsai began with a simple but powerful image: a person holding a small juniper in their hand. This moment sparked a passion that led to years of self-guided learning. His first tree was a Juniper Procumbens Nana from nursery stock.

Encouraged to attend a local bonsai club in Fresno, Cesar expanded his practice by learning from seasoned artists. During the height of the COVID pandemic, he began formal studies with artist David Nguy, gaining foundational skills by decandling and un-wiring trees. Later, he studied under Peter Tea, where he developed a particular appreciation for deciduous species.

Cesar emphasizes working with trees that thrive in your local environment. For him, this led to a deep affinity for olives—collecting, developing, and sharing them with the bonsai community. Today, he maintains his own garden, works with regular clients, sells his trees, and leads educational programs and club workshops.
