Guide to Essential Oils

Using plant-based pure essential oils is the basis for natural aromatherapy. Here is a guide to the essential oils and extracts used in Eastern Leaf Apothecary products and their uses in holistic treatments.

LAVENDER: Our most popular essential oil, lavender has a wide range of uses for both the body and the mind. Lavender essential oil is beneficial for relaxation and relieving stress, increasing circulation, and relieving muscle soreness. It's clean, fresh, floral scent makes it a popular fragrance.

ORANGE: Orange essential oil is naturally antiseptic, anti-bacterial, and fungicidal. It is used for its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, and is beneficial for muscle spasms. Can brighten and refresh dull complexions. Leaves an energizing, uplifting scent on the skin.

EUCALYPTUS: Eucalyptus essential oil is especially helpful to relieve congestion and soothe coughing. It is also a natural antiseptic and insect repellant, and can be used to relieve insect bites and stings. Its scent is camphorus, green, and earthy.

YLANG YLANG: Ylang Ylang essential oil is made from the fresh flowers of the ylang ylang tree. In aromatherapy, ylang yang is used as an antidepressant and for stress relief. It's also claimed to be an aphrodisiac. Ylang ylang essential oil leaves a fresh, sweetly floral scent on the skin, similar to jasmine flowers.

LEMONGRASS: Lemongrass essential oil is beneficial for its antidepressant, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties. It is also used as a natural insect repellant. Its scent is earthy, grassy, and lemony.
