Air plants or Tillandsia are from the family of Bromeliads. However these unique plants are epiphytes, or able to grow without soil. This makes them very unique and great material for using with terrariums. All the nutrients are absorbed through the foliage. Sometimes a root structure will form but it is not necessary for the survival of the plant.
Offsets will develop on the plant over time. Each of these can eventually be separated to form a new plant.
