Air plants or Tillandsia are from the family of Bromeliads. However these unique plants are epiphytes, or able to grow without soil. This makes them very unique and great material for using with terrariums. All the nutrients are absorbed through the foliage. Sometimes a root structure will form but it is not necessary for the survival of the plant. Offsets will develop on the plant over time. Each of these can eventually be separated to form a new plant.

Tillandsia range in many shapes and sizes and all of them flower with different colored flowers, some of which often carry fragrances and scents. Flowers can often be induced if the plant is healthy.

They grow extremely slow but are very easy to care for making them very attractive for indoor settings and low maintenance areas.
