Satsuki Azaleas are one of the most desired trees in bonsai. The most desired attributes in a Satsuki Azalea bonsai tree are a very thick trunk combined with full even foliage. Unfortunately this requires years and years of repairing and training. Luckily for beginners interested in training Satsuki Azaleas, the trees back bud very easily making the tree friendly to cutting and pushing back growth.

The easiest way develop movement in the trunk is to repair the trunk as it grows upwards and steering the movement of the trunk. Branches can easily be developed by letting the apex of the branch grow longer and pushing back once a sufficiently thick branch is developed. If you have the patience for developing a Satsuki Azalea bonsai tree, it can be one of the most rewarding experiences once the tree is complete.
