Were experiencing some temperatures of 106 lately so we thought this might be helpful even to those that dont have the extreme heat. Watering your tree is probably the most important thing you can do for your bonsai tree. Keeping your tree well watered will ensure that your tree stays healthy and strong. Below are 2 tips you can do to add to your watering regimen.
1. Water your tree more than once a day. During the extreme heat, your tree can dry out quickly especially if its in direct sun which most bonsai trees enjoy. However, if you only limit your watering to once a day during hot weather, your trees soil can dry up quickly. If you have good drainage with your soil, watering your tree more than once will help your tree greatly both by decreasing the temperature of the soil and by hydrating it.
2. When you water your tree, make a few passes at it. Water your tree once and then let it rest for a few minutes to let the water soak into the soil. You can then make another pass at the tree or water it again. By doing this, the top soil will have absorbed a good amount of water already, so the next watering will enable the water to seep further down the soil. If youve done it right, you should see the water drain from the bottom of the pot. This gives you a good indication that you are hydrating all the roots of your tree.
